ico-D President David Grossman, makes a study visit to TASA

From October 22 to October 23, 2019,ZHAO Chao, Deputy Dean of the Academy of Arts & Design, Tsinghua University (AADTHU), and Deputy Director of Tsinghua (Qingdao) Academy of Arts and Science Innovation Research (TASA), accompanied David Grossman, President of the International Council of Design (ico-D), to TASA and made a series of study activities. 

On the morning of October 23, Mr. ZHAO Chao, and other persons were invited to Qingdao Municipal Bureau of Industry and Information Technology and discussed with JIANG Bo, Director-General of the Bureau, on developing the industrial design industry in Qingdao and expanding the cooperation fields. SONG Jikuan, Chief Engineer of Qingdao Municipal Bureau of Industry and Information Technology, ZHOU Xinzheng, Deputy Director of the Science and Technology Division, and DONG Fangyong, Deputy Director-General of the West Coast New Area Bureau of Industry and Information Technology, and other leaders attended the meeting. At the meeting, Mr. ZHAO Chao reviewed the long-term good cooperation relationship between AADTHU and Qingdao Municipal Bureau of Industry and Information Technology, and introduced the construction situation of TASA and the intention of ico-D to settle in Qingdao. President Grossman affirmed Qingdao's nice industrial development foundation and development potential and imagined the prospects for cooperation and innovation between ico-D and TASA in Qingdao. JIANG Bo thanked AADTHU for its strong support to the industrial design industry in Qingdao. She said that Qingdao has a perfect foundation and abundant development potential for the manufacturing industry, and introducing more international high-end design and education resources and strengthening the all-round strategic cooperation with AADTHU, TASA and ico-D would be critical for building Qingdao into an international design innovation center. 

Mr. ZHAO Chao and his company visited the Hisense Research and Development Center and had an in-depth communication with several alumni of Tsinghua University, including WANG Difei, Design Director of the Hisense Research and Development Center. WANG Difei highly appraised the industry-university cooperation project between Tsinghua University and Hisense and said that Hisense would enhance its innovation capability in the cooperation project. Both sides affirmed their innovation achievements in the long-term cooperation and hoped to deepen their future cooperation in the fields of design education and product innovation, thus achieving common development. 

Then, Mr. ZHAO Chao and his company reached CRRC Qingdao Sifang Co., Ltd. and visited the exhibition hall of the Operation and Management Building and the test workshop of the national engineering laboratory, and met with LIANG Jianying, Chief Engineer of CRRC Qingdao Sifang Co., Ltd. LIANG Jianying said that the industrial design should not be limited to the product shape, instead, it should be reflected throughout the process from the graphic design to the moment when the product is completed. Currently, CRRC Qingdao Sifang Co., Ltd. has signed cooperation agreements with many international leading universities and hopes to cooperate with AADTHU, and TASA in the field of rail traffic industry. Mr. ZHAO Chao said that both sides would keep strengthening their communication and cooperation in academic exchange, scientific research, and product research and development with the help of the innovation platform of TASA. AADTHU and TASA will introduce more international top resources to improve China's level of rail traffic innovation and design to the leading level in the world.
